senior high school photo session at sunset – Boulder portrait photographer
This beautiful senior high school Boulder High graduate came to her photo shoot requesting one thing: Sunflowers in beautiful light. We timed the session for the sunflower’s peak and kept our fingers crossed for lots of sunlight. It was a beautiful night with plenty of sunflowers. Perfect timing. Emma wanted super natural photos that captured her happiness and joy. This girl reminds me of an actual sunflower. She’s one of those bright beams of light that makes everyone feel happy just being in her presence. I think seniors always wonder if getting their photo taken for an hour is going to feel awkward and strange. The first photos always feel a little posed, but as the session unfolds, there’s nothing but genuine happiness and laughter by the end. This session was no different. We started the photos in my backyard where I have a thousand sunflowers blooming. The light was shining down beautifully. Next, we drove down the road to a little field of wild sunflowers that line both sides of the street. With the Flatirons in the background, the sun low in the sky, and Emma’s beautiful smile, I think the photos were what she was hoping for. After the sunflower fields we drove to my favorite rustic fence and dirt road for a few photos. Finally, we ended in a great big pasture where the light flares into the frame and mountains are the background. Emma and her boyfriend danced in the field in her flowy dress. Emma finished the photo session dancing in the field in the light of the sunset.
I love helping high school seniors see how beautiful they are. With pressures from social media bombarding us we live in a world of so much comparison. It’s so easy to plug into a screen that shows us how perfect everyone else is. The gift of seeing our own inner beauty is rare. My favorite part of senior photography is holding the mirror up for seniors to see this beauty.
