I was so excited to meet this little sister and help welcome her into the world with newborn photography. Eva is so excited to have a little sister. As soon as she got out of the car she was beaming about her little sister and couldn’t wait to introduce me.
It made me remember seven years ago when we brought our daughter home from the hospital. My son was so excited that he had his very own baby. Before she was born, I remember worrying that my son wouldn’t get as much love as he did before he was a brother. I worried I wouldn’t have enough time. I worried it would be so much harder. And it was. A little harder. But what I didn’t expect was how much more love our family was capable of feeling. I didn’t realize that instead of competing for my love, my son loved his little sister as much as I loved her. When she came home there wasn’t less. There was more… More laughter. More sleep deprivation. More joy. More to worry about. But mostly more love. The shared joy of a brand new family member and lifelong friend is nothing short of miraculous.
So when I saw how this big sister was smiling from cheek to cheek about her new baby, I couldn’t wait to photograph that love. I believe in newborn photography with my whole heart. I wish every family had photographs that capture the emotions of the sacred time after bringing a new baby home. They are photos you look back on and treasure more and more with the turning years. For this session we started with a few family photos in the warm studio. Then we took some photos of this sweet little girl sleeping inside a wreath of flowers. We used simple colors and poses throughout the session. Light pinks, gray and blues. This baby girl is just beautiful and I’m so happy she will always know her family’s love for her through these photos.
