happy girl {boulder family photographer}
Some photo sessions have a level of love, beauty and magic that is above average. From the first phone call to the way the information was filled out on my questionnaire, to the last minutes of the photo session, this family shined with as much love as I’ve ever seen. A couple years ago I started sending a questionnaire to my clients once they book their session, and I’m always amazed at the level of honesty and heart that gets put into the answers. I started the questionnaires because I had a family photo session where I learned at the very end of the session the mother had battled – and won – pancreatic cancer. That she was there was a miracle. It was a very emotional photo session. I had no idea until the end that she had almost lost such a hard battle, and I would have photographed the family in a different light had I known. So I started sending out questionnaires to get to know my clients before photographing them. These simple little forms have changed my photography. When my questionnaires are filled out with detail and thought, it helps me put more emotion behind the images. I’m able to capture your story. I knew from the beginning that this family preferred fairytale magic and heartfelt joy in lieu of the perfect portrait with everyone smiling at the camera, so that’s what I spent time capturing.
Dressed in a timeless white dress, little Maya seriously couldn’t be any cuter. We started the photo session with a tea party in my garden and some snuggly family photos. Next we went to one of my favorite spots a couple minutes from my studio for the rest of the photo session. With bubbles, flowers, bare feet and a dirty path to sit on, Maya was happy as can be. My favorite part of the photos of her in the dirt path is the contrast between her precious white dress and her dirty bare feet. She also has the sweetest little face that looks like she came straight out of a fairytale. Here’s a little peek at our session.
