The best part of my job is that brand new families come in at the most exciting times of their lives, they open up their hearts to me, I capture the love, and when we’re all done they’ve become friends I hold dear. It’s so fulfilling to document the growth and change in a family as they welcome their brand new baby into their lives. From pregnancy to birth and beyond, there is so much joy to capture. I met this family when they came for their maternity photos at sunset last spring in my backyard pasture. It was sunset and we took some loose, candid captures of the excitement they were feeling for their little boy who was soon to arrive. A few weeks later, Jack was born and they came for his newborn photos. The squishy toddler fingers of his big sis holding him close are just to die for. The snuggly shots are my favorite. All that perfect new skin. We did some simple setups for little Jack. He slept so perfectly and posed easily into these tight poses. I always take extra time to make sure each and every finger is soft and relaxed, and wait until they’re in a deep sleep before photographing them. It’s the little details that make every difference in the world when photographing newborns. Lucky for me, they came back for some mama-baby poses at sunset a month later. In just a month Jack had grown so much. It was one of those sunsets where the light was so golden that it shines and glows. The photo of big sis blowing a wish is one of my all time favorites. I’m so happy this family has these moments framed all over their home. It’s fun when instead of one giant session with photos of everything, it’s a few little mini sessions that eventually capture all the moments. This way a story is told through different light and different locations. Here’s just a peek at the photos we got as Jack made his way into the world.
